الأسئلة المتكررة
Heart disease can present differently in women than in men, often with subtler symptoms and different risk factors, which can sometimes lead to it being missed or under-treated. A clinic focused on women’s hearts is designed to recognise and address these differences.
As well as chest pain, women can experience less obvious symptoms such as unusual tiredness, shortness of breath, nausea, or discomfort in the jaw, neck, back or arm. These symptoms don’t always mean a heart problem, but they’re worth discussing with a doctor.
It’s worth seeing a cardiologist if you have symptoms that concern you, a family history of heart disease, high blood pressure or cholesterol, or risk factors that particularly affect women, such as diabetes or conditions that arose during pregnancy, like pre-eclampsia. Your GP can refer you if a specialist review is appropriate.
Your first appointment involves a discussion of your medical history, symptoms, and risk factors, along with any assessments your cardiologist recommends. This may include tests such as an ECG or echocardiogram, depending on your individual circumstances.
