EFTPOS & Credit Card
If you are Medicare eligible and the service is bulk-billed (e.g. echocardiogram or stress echocardiogram), we will bill Medicare on your behalf, and no fee is payable.
Where the service is not bulk-billed, the full fee is payable at the end of your appointment. If you are Medicare eligible, we will send the claim to Medicare on your behalf (the rebate is typically credited to your nominated account 1-2 days after the claim is sent ), such that you are only out of pocket the Gap amount. To ensure timely payment of your Medicare rebate (where applicable), we encourage you to make sure:
- You provide a valid referral letter from your doctor
- Your current bank details are linked to your Medicare account via your MyGov account.
If you are not Medicare eligible, then no rebate is payable.
All cancellations must be notified 48 hours prior to the appointment or it might attract a fee.
Common Billing Terms
“Bulk-billing” is an arrangement where your doctor’s fees are paid directly by Medicare, so you don’t receive any bills or have out-of-pocket expenses. The bill is sent electronically to Medicare, which then pays the doctor. Doctors may choose to offer bulk-billing to individual patients at their discretion.
The total amount paid by the patient for a service before receiving the Medicare rebate.
This is the difference between the fee you pay to the clinic on the day of your appointment and the amount that Medicare credits to you as a rebate. That is: Gap amount = Fee payable – Medicare rebate.
Medicare provides a set rebate for medical services when a claim is submitted. The rebate amount is determined by Medicare and depends on meeting certain conditions.
A referral is a letter from your doctor to HeartWest’s cardiology services. You must present this referral at your appointment; otherwise, you will be required to pay the full medical fee.
